A pioneer in the Mexican nonwovens industry, Fis Fiber Industries was founded in 1968 producing nonwoven roll goods. The privately held company claims it’s one of the largest high loft/batting manufacturers and operates one of the largest needlepunching facilities in North America.
Over 10 production lines at five plants in Mexico City produce needlepunch, resin bonded, thermal bonded, airlaid, stitchbonded nonwovens as well as laminating capabilities. Fis Fibers’ diverse range of nonwovens serve the automotives industry, producing interiors including headliners, trunk liners, wheel housings and acoustic isolation pads, among other things, as well as nonwovens for filtration, textiles, protective apparel, bedding/mattresses, household wipes, synthetic leather and more.
“Nonwovens was just starting when the company was founded, and ever since, it has been expanding into new markets and technologies,” says CEO Daniel Fis. “All production lines are state-of-the-art with a new high output production line starting up in January and another high output production line starting up in the fourth quarter of 2017.”
The fastest growing markets for nonwovens in Mexico are automotives, filtration and the footwear, Fis says, while indicating that the protective apparel and textile industries are stable.
Recent developments from the company include the production of nonwovens for one of the world’s largest sports shoes and apparel manufacturers and new offerings in the wipes and aeronautical markets. Fis Fiber Industries has also been working with toy manufacturers for the production of color polyester felts and filling materials for stuffed animals.
“Due to the nature of some types of nonwovens, we have a very service-based philosophy,” Fis says. “Every order is fulfilled within 72 hours of being placed.”
With nearly 50 years of experience in the industry, Fis believes today is a great time to be in nonwovens. “Nonwovens are the textile materials of the future. Every day, new uses and developments are being developed.”
