    Math2Market
    Booth 531
Math2Market GmbH of Germany develops and markets a filtration process simulation software package. The software, called GeoDict, computes structural and physical properties and is used to optimize the design of filters and filter media by well-known filter media manufacturers. Math2Market’s software can be used for nonwovens, weaves, ceramics, paper, foams, membranes, perforated foils, and much more.

The software can generate three-dimensional digital models of nonwovens by entering user-defined parameters with the module FiberGeo. The nonwoven models can be modified, layered and combined. This digital generation is extremely fast and the parameters (fiber shape, diameter, orientation, density, etc.) can be changed interactively to optimize these nonwovens. The software also imports microCT images of existing nonwovens and creates realistic three-dimensional digital models from them, with ImportGeo-VOL. This allows changing the three-dimensional models to study what structural and physical effect modifications have. Also, the software assesses structural (geometrical) and physical properties of the generated or imported three-dimensional structure models: flow, thermal and electrical conductivity, particle filtration, fiber orientation, porosimetry, permeability, effective diffusivity, mechanical properties, saturation-dependent properties, acoustic properties and many more.

Math2Market will showcase the software in action at Filtration 2016.

    Mogul
    Booth 710
As a global leader and ranked among the top 40 nonwoven producers in the world of nonwovens, Mogul is equally a leader in providing specialized solutions for the high performance requirements of the filtration industry. Mogul’s wide base of technologies provides a single source to filter manufacturers for media for both air and liquid filtration applications.

Mogul’s polyester spunbond is available in both a point bonded and a flat bond version. The Turkish nonwovens producer is among a few companies that can provide a fine fiber polyester spunbond in a flat bonded version with either round or trilobal fibers. The combination of flat bond and trilobal fibers with their increased surface area make an excellent filtration media that is usually the choice of many filter manufacturers. The stiffness provided by the polyester presents a filtration media that is readily pleatable on a wide variety of pleating equipment.

Mogul Buffalo Product is also key to the Mogul filtration offering and utilizes either tipped trilobal or sheath core for round fibers, both with PET/CoPET. The copolymer’s (CoPET) presence in each fiber ensures excellent uniformity in bonding, low linting, and excellent abrasion resistance as compared to a more conventional array of both Mono PET and CoPET fibers separately dispersed in the nonwoven web. Additionally, functional and compatible additives can be introduced into the CoPET portion such as color, antimicrobials, etc., for additional value.
    www.mogulsb.com

    Nanoscience Instruments
    Booth 520
The dimensions, durability and quality of fibers can be determined using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) can be used to identify contamination or particulates caught in a filter.

With the introduction of nanofibers, fibers having diameters smaller than a micron, greater resolution is often required. In less than a minute from load to image, the Phenom desktop SEM is the fastest and easiest way to get data and keep a company’s research or product development work moving forward.

Coupled with the Phenom SEM’s FiberMetric automated analysis software, users can quickly acquire quantitative information about fiber parameters. Fiber diameter and size distribution are key to product performance. Filters require a target range of diameters for filtration efficiency. To obtain a quantitative distribution of diameters, many measurements have to be acquired. The high depth of field of the SEM allows for many fibers to be counted in a single image.

Nanoscience Instruments provides a variety of solutions to meet test and measurement requirements.
    www.nanoscience.com

    Oerlikon Neumag
    Booth 623
Oerlikon Neumag is a suppliers of meltblown systems. The Oerlikon Neumag meltblown process is characterized by its constant melt pressure distribution and simultaneously consistent dwell time across the entire width of the spinning beam, which in turn ensures particularly homogeneous nonwoven properties and basis weights. Furthermore, the innovative guidance and distribution of the process air outside the coat-hanger distributor offered by the Oerlikon Neumag technology prevents so-called hotspots. As a result, even extremely sensitive raw materials can be reliably processed into high-quality nonwoven media.

The Oerlikon Neumag meltblown systems are utilized in two distinctly different production lines: Stand-alone mono and bicomponent meltblown equipment for a variety of filtration, insulation and sorbents applications; and “Plug & Produce” inserts in existing and new outside vendor SXS plants for a variety of medical and hygiene applications. In this case, meltblown systems are inserted between an upstream and downstream spinning system (typically spunbond) for the purpose of creating a barrier or liquid impervious layer.
    www.oerlikontextile.com

    Sandler
    Booth 208
Again in 2016, Sandler will present the international audience a wide range of synthetic filtration nonwovens. This year, the focus will be on Indoor Air Quality—requirements on air quality in public spaces. Efficient pocket filter media and pleatable nonwovens for ventilation and air conditioning maintain their efficiency even after discharge, thus meeting the requirements of DIN EN 779:2012. Nonwovens for cabin air and engine air filters help improve the indoor air quality in our vehicles. Fuel filter media protect the engine and contribute to efficient combustion. Synthetic vacuum cleaner bags reliably trap dirt particles and dust and foster a higher suction power.

Growing metropolitan areas, more and more vehicles on the roads, particulate matter and other air pollution—efficient filter media are in higher demand than ever. Efficiency and dust holding capacity, however, are no longer the most important properties. The energy efficiency during operation of the filter plant is gaining importance and influences testing standards. Filter media are expected to contribute to low energy consumption.

Sandler’s new synthetic filter medium enAIRsave combines optimum performance and reduced energy usage. Three filter layers provide optimum dust separation – not just in the fine fiber layer, but across the entire width of the medium. The particles are primarily deposited in the coarse meltblown layer as well as the pre-filter layer. This way, air can still flow through the filter at a relatively low pressure and, consequently, at a reduced energy consumption.

Filter pockets made from enAIRsave are self-supporting, adjusting to the volume flow in the ventilation shaft and offering only very little air resistance themselves. This characteristic also supports the filter’s energy efficiency.

When the air stream is cut off, the pockets made from enAIRsave do not sag, which could bring them into contact with the bottom of the ventilation shaft. Thus, they do not absorb potentially present residual moisture and mold growth is prevented.

    Texel
    Booth 411
Texel remains focused on providing the best quality filter media for liquid bag filters and its patented Triboelectric media. Both product groups will be showcased at its booth with samples and technical information. The liquid filter media features micron rated in polypropylene and polyester. Both product groups are offered in a regular and extended life version. For the Triboelectric media, flexibility is the key. Texel offers three performance grades for each product weight. Texel says the objective is simple: offer the very best solution to its customer’s filtration problems.

Being part of the Lydall family, Texel’s product development capacity has dramatically increased and will help the company meet new and more stringent filter specifications.

    Filtrex India Declared a Success

From challenges of mobility and air pollution control, to the opportunities and impact of new standards and regulations, Filtrex India, which took place Sept. 14-15 in New Delhi, offered a unique series of presentations that reflect the dynamism of the whole filtration supply chain from media to finished products, testing and manufacturing equipment.

With such a mix of topics addressing innovations, new products and markets, or specific requirements for India, these two days covered virtually all aspects of this industry and its growing importance to the sub-continent.

“What is most important is the fact that the cross-fertilization and exchanges of ideas taking place here will accelerate the movement towards the implementation of product solutions from global markets to India and vice-versa. The challenges that filtration professionals have to meet are indeed usually both specific and universal, “says Pierre Wiertz, EDANA’s general manager.

The association says the number (over 180) and quality of participants (spanning the whole supply chain) at Filtrex India 2016 clearly indicate that the filtration industry of India stands at the threshold of a new age wherein adapting newer technologies, planning strategically and taking decisive steps for long term growth are critical for companies involved. The event witnessed a gathering of like-minded people who have the power to influence the industry, and this might well result into a number of new partnerships and alliances in future.

As Samir Gupta, managing director of BCH, said in his welcome address: “It is a great satisfaction to see a large number of filter makers from India, already present at the previous edition, returning this year after more than four years, during which India has seen a fast growing filtration market. Admittedly, though, the current level of response to the challenges of air pollution control, and car emission levels among others, cannot lead to complacency and requires further investments.”

He further added: “India today is witnessing a series of revisions and reforms in its legislation pertaining to manufacturing and emissions. Interestingly, there is from the other side a great consumer awareness too that is pushing forward the filtration industry in the country. As an example the need for an ambient indoor air quality can be witnessed through the increasing sales of air purifiers, HVAC systems, cabin air filters in automobiles and many other such equipment. The success of Filtrex India 2016 clearly reflected the good health of the industry, with even better times to come.”

Another important feature of all Filtrex events is the tabletop exhibition. With 17 exhibitors, this made the 2016 Filtrex India not only the highest level conference this year in India for nonwoven filter media, but also a unique promotional opportunity for all companies with particular interest in the filtration market.

In his concluding remarks, Marines Lagemaat, scientific and technical director, EDANA, illustrated the complementary role of legislation and standards, and industry solutions to meet these: “For instance, the obligation for future truck engines to meet upcoming Bharat 6 standard (equivalent to EURO 6) requires smart and customized engineering solutions. In response to this, the final session of Filtrex India on filter media developments was like a toolbox, it offered ideas and solutions that potentially can be applied in all categories, with contributions from across the supply chain.”
