More than 300 members of the nonwovens industry congregated at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC earlier this week for the official opening of the Nonwovens Institute’s latest facility. The Nonwovens Innovation and Technical Center, which was announced just over two years ago in spring 2015, opened in April. It houses a state-of-the-art advanced 1.5-meter spunmelt line, featuring Reifenhauser Reicofil technology as well as hydroentanglement technology and calendering equipment supplied by Andritz, A. Celli winders and rewinders and Hills’ mono and bico filament die packs.
According to the institute, the lines’ web path can be customized to enable specific requirements so the web proceeds from spunbond layotodwn to a compation roll and then to a series of options including two-in-one line unwinders to combine with other webs, to a pre hydroentanglement unit, a thermal calendar for three bond patterns and smooth rolls to a second hydroentanglement line to the kiss roll unit and the through air dryer.
