Headquartered in Yuhang District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, Nbond Nonwovens has developed and manufactured high-end spunlace nonwoven materials for nearly 18 years. In 1999, Ren Jianhua, chairman of Robam Group, and his two partners took an interest in the spunlace industry and established a joint venture together. Later, Jianhua and the board believed that this industry would offer future growth opportunities, so Robam Group invested in Nbond, completely separated from the old enterprise, and officially devoted itself to the spunlace nonwoven materials industry in 2002.

Nbond’s first production line was completed and put into operation in 2003, and today the company owns nine advanced spunlace production lines with an annual capacity of 56,000 tons. It is also equipped with the first domestic enterprise self-built experimental line. “This line is completely independent of production, and is only used for technical staff to develop new products and new equipment,” says Shen Yuan, GM assistant, Hangzhou Nbond Nonwovens Co. “At the same time, we hope to make use of this R&D platform with diversified equipment, functions and technologies, making it to be the most powerful support for our company's operation and development, and train more technical experts for the enterprise and even for the industry.”

After getting its spunlace operation off the ground, Nbond invested in and established a wholly-owned subsidiary, Bonyee Technology, in 2006. Bonyee uses Nbond’s spunlace technology and focuses on research in nonwovens converting, producing wet wipes, beauty care products and industrial wipes. In 2019, Bonyee's largest production workshop for dry wipes in China was put into operation.

Also in 2019, Nbond completed and began operating Line J, which the company says is the most advanced intelligent high-speed spunlace production line in the world. It took the company two years to complete the line, according to Yuan. “With the help of the online monitoring system and the Andritz eXcelle Isoweb TT carding machine, Line J has the highest speed of 200 meters per minute and an annual production capacity of up to 15,000 tons,” Yuan says.

Overall, Nbond’s technology includes three-dimensional carding, temperature-sensitive moisturizing treatment, high-speed carding of fine denier LC fiber, multilayer three-dimensional spunlace material preparation, functional nonwoven shading material preparation, low quantitative wet fiber network and ultrafine short-cut multilayer implantation consolidation, among other technologies.

The company’s products are mainly sold in China's domestic market and exported to the United States, Japan, South Korea, Colombia, and in more than 50 countries around the globe. According to Yuan, current sales in the domestic Chinese market have increased significantly, while the global market achieved just a small increase in 2019 due to the impact of the U.S.-China trade war. Currently the company is working hard to develop and expand its customer bases in China, Southeast Asia and the European Union.

Like much of the industry, environmental sustainability has been a top priority for Nbond. Recently Nbond has been promoting the sales of Sanlyzox, dispersible and biodegradable high-end care environmental protection materials, and Moshinbo R, 100% cellulose biodegradable cleaning materials and biodegradable sanitary absorbent materials. Recently, the newest generation of Sanlyzox has passed EN13432 standards, and has received many customer inquiries and sample requirements, according to Yuan.

Yuan believes now is a good time to be in the nonwovens industry, even for new companies with determination, preparation and strength to enter the market if they have the capital and technology know-how.

“Because nonwoven cloth has huge room for growth in the world's consumer market, especially in developing countries with large population bases, it is worth seizing this development opportunity,” Yuan says.
