A method of manufacturing an absorbent article, the method: providing a blank for said absorbent article, the blank comprising a front part, a back part, and a crotch part between the front part and the back part, wherein each of the front part and back part has lateral side portions, superposing the lateral side portions of the front part and the back part, so that an inner surface of the lateral side portions of the front part directly contact an inner surface of the lateral side portions of the back part, and directly joining the lateral side portions of the front part to the lateral side portions of the back part to form side seams extending in a longitudinal direction of the absorbent article, wherein, wherein the lateral side portions of at least one of the front part and the back part include a first layer of nonwoven material which has been reinforced, before the superpositioning, in an area where at least one of the side seams is formed, the reinforced portions are reinforced by folding the first layer of nonwoven material upon itself to provide at least one additional layer of nonwoven material extending at least in the area of the at least one side seam.
