Suominen, a global market leader in nonwovens for wipes, has joined FIBS, the leading non-profit corporate responsibility network in Finland. Established in 2000, FIBS has extensive experience in bringing together companies, NGOs, researchers, public sector organizations and other players to exchange information and experiences on best sustainability practices, as well as to learn from both each other and various stakeholders in order to generate shared value. FIBS currently has nearly 300 members, most of them large companies.
FIBS organizes events and provides information on the latest topics in the field of sustainability. FIBS also works to actively impact the field practices and initiatives on a national level and to communicate the sustainable development solutions of its members and Finland globally through its international co-operation networks.
Suominen is currently finalizing its next sustainability agenda for years 2017–2021 and the FIBS membership will support the company in its implementation. The membership also gives Suominen a seat in the table among some of the globally leading companies in sustainability, including companies such as UPM and Nokia.
"Joining FIBS was a natural step for Suominen since we are looking to learn more about sustainability, both as an organization and as individuals," says Anu Heinonen, vice president, Corporate Communications & Investor Relations and also responsible of overseeing and coordinating sustainable development at Suominen. "During the last few years, we have witnessed the growing importance of sustainability, thanks to increasing number of inquiries from our global customers concerning, for example, our environmental footprint and protection of human rights in our supply chain."
