A sanitary article, such as a sanitary napkin or a pantiliner, the sanitary article comprising a topsheet, a backsheet, an acquisition layer and an absorbent core, the absorbent core being arranged between the topsheet and the backsheet and the acquisition layer being arranged between the topsheet and the absorbent core, the sanitary article having an extension in a longitudinal direction about a longitudinal centerline and in a transverse direction, the sanitary article having a first and a second longitudinal side edge extending in the longitudinal direction and a front and a rear transverse side edge extending in the transverse direction, the sanitary article being divided in a frontmost half and in a rearmost half, as seen in the longitudinal direction, wherein the absorbent core in the rearmost half of the sanitary article is provided with a low-density rear shaping element having a lower density than an adjacent region of the absorbent core, the low-density rear shaping element comprising a shaping element first leg section and a shaping element second leg section, the rearmost half of the sanitary article furthermore comprising a V-shaped, or modified V-shaped, rear embossed element comprising a first embossed leg section and a second embossed leg section, wherein the shaping element first leg section and the shaping element second leg section tend towards each other and towards the rear transverse side edge of the sanitary article to form a non-intersecting V-shape, the shaping element first leg section and the shaping element second leg section being arranged on a respective side of the longitudinal centerline of the sanitary article, in that the V-shaped rear embossed element is provided only in the topsheet and in the acquisition layer and points towards the rear transverse side edge of the sanitary article and in that the low-density rear shaping element and the V-shaped rear embossed element partly or completely overlap each other.
