Founded in 1994, Mila Sp. z o.o. is located in Czestochowa, Poland, with a production plant and warehouse occupying 10,000 sqm. At the time of its founding, Mila’s primary business scope was the distribution of materials for upholstery.

The company was born during a political transition period in Poland. After the fall of communism, many furniture companies emerged, but the country’s struggling economy couldn’t cope with the increased demand for materials. Therefore, for Mila’s founders, market demand was a decisive factor in entering this sector, according to the company’s export manager Jacek Misterkiewicz.

In 2004, the acquisition of two machines for wadding production began Mila’s history as a manufacturer of nonwovens. In 2006, the company installed its first needlepunch line. Over the years Mila expanded its needlepunching business, which resulted in the addition of three more lines between 2010 and 2015. Initially, Mila produced shoddy felt, but since 2013 the company initiated the production of needlepunched nonwovens made of polyester and polypropylene fibers. According to Misterkiewicz, this period was very important for the company because it led to its current core business—the manufacturing of acoustic rPET panels. “This sector started to develop rapidly in recent years, but Mila was ready to accept such a challenge thanks to its background in polyester fibers processing,” Misterkiewicz says.

Today, the company produces materials on four needlepunching lines and two lamination lines at its factory in Czestochowa. Additionally, in response to customers’ requests, Mila introduced a new CNC cutting bed, which will allow for better customization of products. Also, one of its needlepunching lines is getting a thorough renovation and, as a result, this investment will significantly increase the company’s overall capacity. “Our variety of products (different colors, thicknesses, sizes, low MOQ etc.) and individual approach facilitate fulfillment of most demanding client’s necessities,” Misterkiewicz says.

Currently, the company is targeting the interior design market by offering acoustic and decorative panels. Mila collaborates with installing and reworking companies and is also sourcing clients through distributors and wholesale channels.

Mila is also constantly seeking new market opportunities. Although it is based in Poland, export constitutes a significant part of the company’s turnover. Additionally, Mila is present at numerous international events, including Techtextil (Frankfurt, Germany), Warsaw Home (Poland) and Orgatec (Cologne, Germany). Company representatives also attend various international events (e.g. Architects At Work) in pursuit of contemporary market trends and fashions.

Mila keeps a close eye on sustainability and understands its importance for future generations. For the production of acoustic panels, the company is consuming recycled fibers (rPET) where possible. In an average Mila panel, materials are equivalent to 120 plastic bottles. Additionally, last year, the company invested in photovoltaic installations to minimize its carbon footprint.

“Mila is very excited about the future of the nonwovens industry,” Misterkiewicz says. “The market trends are changing in time and for manufacturers, adapting to such a situation seems to be the most challenging part of the business. However, Mila throughout the years proved to be at the forefront of changes and is looking with optimism at the future opportunities in the nonwovens world where reliable European producers are appreciated.”
