A method for making absorbent articles, the method comprising steps of: rotating a pattern roll about an axis of rotation extending axially in a cross direction, the pattern roll comprising pattern elements extending radially outward from the axis of rotation; providing a first roller and a second roller adjacent the first roller to define a nip between the first roller and the second roller; advancing a first substrate and a second substrate through in a machine direction through the nip at a first speed S1 of at least about 100 meters per minute; providing mandrel cores with at least one elastic strand wound onto each mandrel core; rotating the mandrel cores and unwinding elastic strands from the mandrel cores; advancing the elastic strands from the rotating mandrel cores; stretching the elastic strands; and applying adhesive to at least one of the elastic strands, the first substrate, and the second substrate; advancing the stretched elastic strands between the first substrate and the second substrate at the nip to form an elastomeric laminate; and intermittently engaging the elastomeric laminate with the pattern elements on the pattern roll
