Masterplast, a building materials company, was founded in Hungary in 1997 by Dávid Tibor and Balázs Ács. At the time, the five-person team developed products such as roofing foils, fiberglass mesh and building industry accessory products. The small enterprise quickly became popular in the market thanks to its customer-focused business approach, reliable products and flexible services. Dynamic growth ensued and two years later, Masterplast became a market leader in Hungary.
International expansion began in 1999, and in 2005, the Masterplast Group had developed into a regional market leader in Central Europe. Since then, export activity has continuously expanded with the company’s market presence extending to 41 countries globally.
Since 2012, the company’s own production activities have become more and more important, according to Illés Jancsó, managing director, Masterplast International Kft. With continuous development and acquisitions, the group now has vast production capacities, the most important of which are: five EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) lines, one fiberglass mesh line (the second largest in Europe), two nonwoven factories, with two additional large investments to be completed soon; the production capacity of glass and stone wool is currently underway. “We are always looking to increase our capacity because of the growing business we generate; continuous development is encoded in the Masterplast DNA,” says Jancsó.
Masterplast Group is listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange in the premium category, dealing in the distribution and manufacture of construction materials and industrial nonwoven products, holding a key position in the market for facade insulation, high-roof insulation and dry construction systems.
Specifically, Masterplast produces spunbond fleece and two- and three-layered composite materials with a membrane layer. Its two nonwoven factories are based in Aschersleben, Germany, and Sárszentmihály, Hungary. “With our two locally well separated production sites, we are able now to cover quite a large geographical area entering almost all European countries,” says Jancsó.
Both nonwoven lines have two beams/bars, as well as BICO technology—PP, PP/PE, PE are available. The German line produces materials in widths up to 2400 mm (+biaxial stretching up to 5200mm) and the line in Hungary produces nonwovens in widths up to 3200 mm. Available in all colors, the nonwovens are also available with properties including hydrophobic, hydrophilic, UV, flame retardant, antistatic and antibacterial.
In addition to its main market, the building industry, Masterplast’s nonwovens are also used in the medical, furniture, automotive and filtration sectors.
In recent years, the company has focused on environmental sustainability in its manufacturing. The company recycles all of its own production waste and has put effort into developing 100% green, recycled nonwovens. Additionally, the group has significantly increased the amount of green energy used in all subsidiaries. “Reducing our energy consumption is a constant focus, and we have achieved great success in setting up modern efficient production processes,” Jancsó explains.
Masterplast believes it sets itself apart in the nonwovens industry because it holds the latest technology combined with 20 years of experience and know-how in the field of nonwoven production. “We are focusing only on our few target markets strongly, which results in a clean product portfolio and exceptional quality,” he says. “In addition, the exceptional density of talented human resources makes the company special.”
The company believes it is a good time to be active in the nonwovens industry, with room for business development and innovation. “Generally, this is a very stable and growing market, with even over-proportional growth opportunities, and appearing in new innovative technologies and new areas of application,” Jancsó concludes.
