A diaper having a front section, back section, a seat section extending between the front and back sections, and a wearer-facing layer of each section, the diaper comprising: a three-dimensional containment system defined by the wearer-facing layer of the diaper, the containment system comprising a first pleated section defined on at least a portion of the back section of the diaper, the first pleated section comprising a plurality of pleats, with each of the pleats being aligned generally parallel to a width of the diaper and being substantially fixed in a knife pleat arrangement with a generally downwardly opening pocket facing generally toward the front section of the diaper, and a second pleated section defined on at least a portion of the front section of the diaper, the second pleated section comprising a plurality of pleats, with each of the pleats being aligned generally parallel to a width of the diaper and being substantially fixed in a knife pleat arrangement with a generally downwardly opening pocket facing generally towards the back section of the diaper.
