Due to their complex material properties, the cutting of glass fiber and nonwoven mats places special demands on the slitting system. In order to meet the high demands of its customers with an ideal solution, Dienes has developed a unique automatic slitting system with two cutting sections whose 1-6 cuts and fast recipe changeover ensure more flexibility and efficiency during slitting of the material. As a specialist for professional slitting tools, Dienes is also a technological trendsetter in the plastic processing industry wherever more efficiency and flexibility are concerned. The new Tandem Slitting System is the best proof of this. Connected directly to the production machine, the automatic slitting system processes glass fiber and nonwoven materials up to 2500 gsm. The material is first slit with 1-6 cuts. Next the material is cross-cut so that the mats are produced in the desired size. The Tandem Slitting System achieves cutting speeds of 2-6 m/min. and is designed for working widths of 2500 mm, minimum cutting widths of 400 mm and edge trim of at least 20 mm.
Unlike conventional systems for the cutting of glass fibre and non-woven material, the DIENES Tandem Slitting System has two cutting sections arranged one after the other that allow three different production options.
1. Up to six cuts simultaneously within a slitting recipe
2. Presetting of two different recipes each with maximum three cuts (this enables faster changeover from one recipe to another)
3. The rear cutting section can also be used as a replacement for individual cuts (e. g. if knives in the front cutting section are blunt). In addition Dienes has constructed the Tandem Slitting System in such a way that another cut can be added per cutting section subsequently for future expansion.
The Tandem Slitting System has been equipped with the most innovative components from the Dienes portfolio in order to ensure maximum quality and efficiency during cutting. These also include the DS 8 pneumatic shear cut knife holder. This all-rounder among the knife holders excels with its extremely high level of stability and service life while the fact that it can be used in both directions guarantees maximum flexibility. Thanks to its high degree of precision and user-friendly depth adjustment it is also well suited for cutting glass fiber and nonwoven materials. The bottom knives used are equipped with bottom knife motors, with adjustment of the knife holder and bottom knife motors being effected on linear rails. The average positioning time is 1.3 minutes for three cuts. The system is controlled via a touch panel that allows the management of two independent recipes for the web feed and web discharge sides.
