Nonwovens producer Lydall, Manchester, CT, reported its sales were $93.7 million during the third quarter of 2011. These results represent a 21% increase compared to the same quarter of last eyar. Meanwhile, operating income increase to $2.3 million compared to $0.3 million last year.
The sales increase was primarily attributed to higher sales and improved margins in the thermal/acoustical segment despite lower gross profit within the Performance Materials business. Operating income grew on improvements within the thermal/acoustical segment where manufacturing improvements were felt.Operating income within Performance Materials was weak due to negative product sales mix, higher and manufacturing costs.
