A disposable pant-like undergarment has been granted a patent. The article includes a stretchable front panel with a distal end, first and second side edges and a retracted length measured between the first and second side edges. A stretchable back panel has a distal end, first and second side edges and a retracted length measured between the first and second side edges. An elastic band is secured to only one of the front and back panels and has a first end and first and second side edges. The elastic band is cantilevered outward from the distal end such that the first end overlaps a portion of the respective front or back panel.
The elastic band has a retracted length less than the retracted length of the panel to which it is secured. An absorbent assembly includes a liquid pervious bodyside liner, a liquid-impervious outer cover and an absorbent positioned therebetween. The absorbent assembly is secured to the front and back panels and is capable of being folded to enable the front panel to overlap the back panel. A pair of seams joins the front panel, back panel and elastic band together at the first and second side edges to form a pant-like undergarment with a waist opening and a pair of leg openings. The elastic band creates a snug fit at the waist opening.
