Job Description:
My client, Suominen/Bethune Nonwovens has an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer –in Bethune, SC. Reporting to the Production Manager, this position is responsible for creating and maintaining statistically-based process control systems and for cost management, product quality, and continuous improvement. In terms of business impact, this position will have direct responsibility for providing effective process engineering support to production and other business functions and for developing tactics that align with process engineering strategy and objectives.
Responsibilities:
Education
BS degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Paper, or Textile Engineering or related field or equivalent experience. We will consider individuals with college degrees who have had internships and/or co-ops as well as individuals with five-to-eight years of related progressive experience in a manufacturing environment.

Job Description:
My client, Suominen/Bethune Nonwovens has an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer –in Bethune, SC. Reporting to the Production Manager, this position is responsible for creating and maintaining statistically-based process control systems and for cost management, product quality, and continuous improvement. In terms of business impact, this position will have direct responsibility for providing effective process engineering support to production and other business functions and for developing tactics that align with process engineering strategy and objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Understand manufacturing processes, and documents as appropriate.
- Create and maintain process control systems for critical to quality process variables.
- Lead the continuous improvement process (in assigned area of responsibility) to reduce variation to meet customer expectations.
- Support the cost management process for assigned area of responsibility.
- Provide support for continuous improvement and cost management efforts.
- Participate on Quality and/or other teams to provide resources, remove barriers, and obtain buy-in and/or other systems and develop effective corrective and preventive action.
- Support supplier quality improvement efforts and ensure alignment with plant requirements.
- Comply with practices and systems directed toward the pursuit of zero injuries, zero health risk, and zero environmental impact.
- Participate with R&D as well as Sales/Marketing on business teams to ensure plant profitability and utilization.
- Lead or support efforts to engineer new process designs and incorporate new processes into existing work systems.
- Facilitate a plant-wide culture which focuses on internal and external customer needs and requirements.
- Identify measurable departmental key performance measures (KPM’s) and develop systems to ensure they add value.
- Develop and maintain systems to accurately collect process data records.
- Develop and use systems to understand product and process variability.
- Maintain a positive relationship with employees.
Education

Position Specific and Physical Requirements
- Work normal office hours with overtime and weekend work as necessary. Some travel required.
- Must be able to on call for emergencies.
- Ability to move around manufacturing facilities and office is required.
- Well versed and experienced in utilizing statistical process control techniques and methods.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Project. Mini Tab experience a plus.
- Root cause failure analysis, C & E matrix, FMEA, Pareto, and process mapping experience a plus.
- Nonwovens, wet-laid technology, carding, calendering, and winding experience is a plus.
- Carding or nonwovens wet-laid background is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills required.
