Hygiene and health company Essity, maker of the Tork brand, has acquired the U.S.-based professional wiping and cleaning company Legacy Converting, Inc. The company manufactures sanitizing and disinfecting wet wipes, chemical ready wipes and dry wipes in a move that will expand the Tork professional hygiene portfolio.
The acquisition will strengthen the Tork product portfolio and will provide significant benefits to Essity's North American customers with an expanded professional hygiene offering as well as more profound surface cleaning and disinfecting expertise.
In other news, Kimberly-Clark announced its $30 million investment in upgrades at its plants in Colombia to better serve the region. The company operates three plants in Colombia, which are located in Tocancipa, Barbosa and Papales del Cauca and employ about 1000 workers. Products made in Colombia are exported to around 30 countries in the world .
About $7 million of the investment will be spent to increase production of feminine hygiene items at the Tocanacipa plant, which is largely focused on absorbent products.
