After having produced the worldwide first winder for the nonwovens industry in 1972 for a customer in Lutraville and continuously pioneering in the nonwovens industry with new technical solutions like an in-line rewinder-slitter for up to 1000 m./min., May 6, 2021, was again a day Edelmann set a mark in the nonwovens industry.
For long time it was seen that the speed in off-line winding and slitting was limited due to technical reasons to 1800 m./min. Through the launch of the latest high speed Reicofil RF5 lines it looked to became necessary to run such line with two off-line slitters. Operators of such equipment know very well how awkward it is to operate two slitters next to each other not to mention the economic drawback.
Thanks to the launch of the Quick-Change master roll unwinder from Edelmann Technology being supplied to the market for several years and the latest off-line slitter capable to run up to 2000 m./min., such line could be operated with only one slitter.
Edelmann Technology engineers have been rewarded for their hard and dedicated work for many months to overstep, actually overrun and up to then in the industry thought technical limit.
On May 6 at 4pm a just ready produced Edelmann Technology unwinder and off-line slitter with a working with of 3,60 m was made ready for the speed test the industry has long been waiting for.
First all functions where mechanically tested and parameters input in the operator panel. After hitting the enter button the slitter started to purr continuously up to 1800 m./min. After having reached this speed, the next input was for 2000 m./min.. The machine continued to purr like a cat. Step by step the a new higher speeds have been entered. After having reached a speed of 3000 m./min. first signals of vibrations where noted and the slitter slowed down again.
The next day a low gsm SMS spunbond material of a well-known producer was loaded into the unwinder. All parameters checked, the knives started and engaged with the counter knives. Again the slitter was setup to run in a first step up to 1800 m./min. and the slitter started again to purr. Once it reached that speed, 2000 m./min. was input in the operator panel. Thereafter in steps of 50 m./min. the speed was increased step by step. At the end Edelmann slit rolls of about 1 m. diameter were produced at a top speed of 2500 m./min.
