Based in Casablanca, Morocco, nonwovens manufacturer SOFTTECH’s roots date back to 1918. For generations, its parent company SOFTGROUP has become one of the largest groups operating in Morocco’s textile industry. The group has developed unique expertise in over 25 lines of business including spinning, weaving, dyeing, printing and tailoring, and in 2016 it began manufacturing nonwoven fabrics.
SOFTTECH currently produces 35 tons of polypropylene spunbond per day and also converts the fabric into nonwoven bags. Its production lines manufacture a wide-range of multi-width and multi-colored rolls with various treatments and finishes. It operates in four different business units: SOFTPACK, SOFTAGRI, SOFTHOME and SOFTHEALTH.
Within the SOFTPACK unit, SOFTTECH manufactures ultrasonic welded ecological bags. The range and availability of colors, print options, finishes and treatments allows for bag customization. In the SOFTAGRI unit, the company develops a range of nonwovens specifically for crop protection and biological and temperature monitoring. Its different additives and treatments allow first-rate yields and optimal sustainability solutions for each crop type, according to the company. In the SOFTHOME unit, nonwovens are used as external coverings in upholstery and are flexible to meet the needs of products from mattresses to tablecloths. Meanwhile, under its SOFTHEALTH unit SOFTTECH manufactures technical fabrics for the healthcare sector. These nonwovens provide filtering properties, and also form antibacterial barriers, therefore cutting the risk of infection and microbial contamination.
Since its inception four years ago, the company has made a number of investments, including increasing capacity of its fabric production and bag making machines, investing in printing and laminating machines, as well as the construction of a new logistics platform.
Currently SOFTTECH produces 900 million bags per year, and operates the biggest capacity of production in nonwoven bags in Europe and Africa, according to Karim Haoudy, sales export manager.
The polypropylene nonwoven-based bags are cost-effective, dimensionally stable, extremely durable, soft in feel and attractive in appearance. The fabric is breathable, non-allergenic, non-toxic and water repellent. SOFTTECH also develops bags made with 100% recycled materials, which offer the same look and strength as the ones made with 100% virgin material.
