Zuiko Corporation is partnering with Takeei Corporation, Soma City in Japan and Yamagota University in a pilot project evaluating the recycling of used disposable diapers and the conversion of the materials into fuel. The recycling efforts are part of a larger project, spearheaded by Takeei, called Soma Circular Park, an environmental complex aimed at developing a decarbonized society.
Takeei Corporation will collect used diapers from public hospitals in Soma City and Yamagota University will provide research efforts evaluating issues related to recycling diaper waste. As a global manufacturer of production equipment for disposable products like diapers and sanitary napkins, Zuiko will provide machinery technology that converts used diaper materials into fuel.
The site will comprehensively demonstrate real world conditions and help identify issues related to using diaper waste to create fuel and for its future commercialization.
The data collected will aid in the research and future establishment of operations for difficult-to-recycle plastics and combustible waste. The project aims to promote a recycling oriented and decarbonized society by transforming difficult-to-process waste into recyclable resources. Collecting diaper waste, converting it into fuel by private businesses and evaluating the resulting data by university academics is an important step in these efforts.
