Suominen Corporation and Women’s Bank have agreed on cooperation that includes a one-time donation to a cooperative initiative of Women’s Bank in Cambodia. Cooperation for Women’s Economic Development is a project that strengthens the vitality of 17 agricultural cooperatives in total, through which the social and economic position of local women improves.
The initiative is a continuation of the four-year Women: Hope and Growth project. During the project, in total 24 agricultural cooperatives, led by females, were founded in four provinces.
“As a company, we want to carry our social responsibility also in global scale. The work done by Women’s Bank in developing countries is invaluable: They support the lives of local women and have also achieved tangible impacts and results. Suominen wants to support that work that improves the economical position of women and, consequently, creates general prosperity in local communities,” says Nina Kopola, president & CEO of Suominen Corporation.
Reetta Meriläinen, chair of the Steering Group of Women’s Bank, is delighted of the cooperation started.
“Corporate partners are essential for us and I am very happy that we can now cooperate with Suominen. In this initiative in Cambodia, female entrepreneurship will be taken to the next level through more effective financial education, improved efficiency in savings and loans as well as through creating new networks between the female entrepreneurs and local investors,” Reetta Meriläinen states.
