Despite a sharp slowdown in sales during the second half, Fibertex Nonwovens was able to grow its 2021 sales from DKK1,791 million to DKK1,814 million ($266 million) thanks to strong sales of wipes and filtration products in North America during the first half of the year as well as higher selling prices. This growth came to a halt in the second part of the year.
As these challenges continue into 2022, Fibertex Nonwovens continues to focus on the future with large-scale investments at its sites in North America and Europe, which are intended to drive its sales above $400 million by 2026.
In North America, Fibertex Nonwovens announced last year it would invest in additional land as well as a new spunlace line at its facility in Grey Court, SC, which already houses spunlace and needlepunch equipment. The new spunlace line is a high-capacity, state-of-the-art line which will allow the company to process sustainable materials and make unique substrates. Fibertex purchased the South Carolina site in early 2019.
In August 2022, the company announced it would restructure its North American business into two divisions—spunlace and needlepunch—to better focus on the specific needs of its core businesses and key technologies.
Investment is also a focus in Fibertex Nonwovens’ European business where it is adding a spunlace line in Svitavy, Czech Republic, as part of a comprehensive investment program. This program also includes increased capacity as well as the addition of finishing and coating lines at its site in Turkey, which specializes in spunlacing. These investments will help target growth in the disinfectant wipes and healthcare sectors while also allowing the company to offer new and sustainable product properties that will help meet demands in the future. The new lines will also free up capacity on some existing lines in Europe to allow room for exploring new opportunities in areas like acoustics for automotive and filtration media.
Fibertex Nonwovens announced both investments in early 2021, reporting that demand for its nonwovens has increased significantly in recent years, particularly substrates for more specialized applications and high performance materials for the healthcare sector, industrial products, acoustics for automotive and nanofiltration.
