Ontex to shut German site

June 26, 2012

Baby diaper plant will close in October.

The Ontex Group intends to close a diaper production plant in Recklinghausen, Germany by October. The closure of the site, which employs about 300 people, has been caused by an extremely competitive private label baby diaper market in Western Europe which has made the Recklinghausen site underutilized. While measures to avoid a shutdown have been examined in recent months, executives could not come up with a better option. Ontex will now work with employees to reach an acceptable arrangement.

Headquartered in Zele, Belgium, Ontex is a key player in the European hygienic disposables market with a wide range of products for baby care, feminine care and adult incontinence. In total, Ontex employs 4500 workers in 13 countries.
