rnIf 2008 was considered the year of rising raw material prices, 2009 can be termed the year of economic uncertainty. As the global economy tried to seek recovery from the crashing of the financial system in late 2008, nonwovens manufacturers were left trying to do business in the new economy. Luckily for nonwovens makers, many of the industry’s core markets like feminine hygiene, medical and baby diapers are defensive and were not impacted too heavily by the recession, but others such as construction, automotives and home furnishings have felt some pain.

rnAs 2009 comes to a close, many nonwovens manufacturers, no matter which markets they serve, are optimistic that the worst is behind them. Sales are starting to improve and their businesses can look to a prosperous 2010. As we move into the new year, NONWOVENS INDUSTRY has taken the time to compile what we consider some of the year’s most important news stories.
