Trilobal Fiber

December 8, 2005

Viscose manufacturer Kelheim Fibres GmbH is a leading producer of speciality fibers for the nonwovens industry. With its trilobal Galaxy fiber it is the largest supplier worldwide for tampon fibers. Just recently Kelheim has added Viloft nonwoven to its range of speciality fibers—another innovative and interesting product for the nonwovens sector. Galaxy is a speciality viscose fiber with unique absorbency characteristics. The special trilobal cross section of Galaxy delivers a fiber with increased absorbency, superior to any other cellulosic fiber, such as cotton or standard viscose. Besides its main application as fiber for tampons, Galaxy is also ideally suited to many other nonwoven processes and a variety of end uses. At present the company is targeting the wipes market. Its new innovative product Viloft nonwoven is serving a market need for wipes that are flushable. Initial test work has shown that, during disposal, Viloft nonwoven enhances the disintegration process of nonwoven materials.
