February 2, 2010

Patented recently is a layered pad comprised of a bottom impervious layer, a top layer of a fibrous high loft nonwoven capable of entrapping small or large particles and preventing their scatter, optionally combined with a middle layer of fibers and super absorbent agent, wherein liquids pass through the top layer, become absorbed by the middle layer, and evaporate; and a method for manufacturing a nonwoven pad layer having an at least partially open-ended configuration. The method of manufacturing the open ended nonwoven layer includes cutting at last one surface of the nonwoven layer and then abrading the cut surface with an abrading tool.
