A disposable absorbent article for the absorption and containment of urine or other body exudates has been patented. The article comprises a liquid impervious backing sheet, a liquid pervious bodyside liner and an absorbent material between the liquid pervious bodyside liner and the liquid impervious backing sheet. The bodyside liner comprises a woven network of fibers with an open area of 50–99% and defines a plurality of topographical features surrounded by land areas, the topographical features are oriented toward a wearer, projecting to a height of 2 millimeters to 10 millimeters relative to the land areas, and defining a cross-sectional area that is 10–95% of a bodyside liner area.
