Absorbent Article With Improved Fluid Acquisition System
January 21, 2003
A disposable absorbent article arranged to be worn by a wearer to trap and collect fluid waste products has been patented. The article accommodates multiple insults of fluid waste products and contains a longitudinal axis, a topsheet, a fluid-acquisition system, and a fluid-absorbent core. The topsheet has a portion forming a fluid intake zone. The longitudinal axis has a center and a topsheet portion that is formed of a single layer of a fluid-pervious fibrous material. The fluid acquisition system comprises a first and a second fluid acquisition layer, with the first layer containing an apertured film, and the second layer containing a fibrous, fluid-pervious material. The absorbent core contains a fluid-absorbing material that is suitable for accommodating multiple insults of the fluid waste products. The fluid intake zone makes up a portion of the area of the core and is located along the longitudinal axis, offset from the center. The first fluid acquisition layer is located directly over the second and under and contiguous with the topsheet at the fluid intake zone. The second fluid acquisition layer is located under the first at the fluid intake zone and directly over and contiguous with the absorbent core so that the first and second fluid acquisition layers are positioned directly within the topsheet’s fluid intake zone. One of the first and second fluid acquisition layers is coextensive in size with the fluid intake zone and neither of the first and second fluid acquisition layers is coextensive in size with the topsheet.
