Patented is a tampon. The tampon contains an absorbent pledget with a proximal end for placement near the cervical bone and a distal end opposite the proximal end. The tampon features a menstrual fluid indicator that is in contact with the absorbent pledget at the distal end. The indicator is sensually perceivable to a user when contacted by the menstrual fluid and has an inner layer in contact with the pledget. An outer layer is impermeable to moisture and the signal layer is contained between the inner and outer layers.
