Along with its annual report, Schouw & Co, the parent company of Fibertex Personal Care and Fibertex Nonwovens, has published its ESG Report for 2023 presenting ESG initiatives and results from the past year. When speaking of sustainability, the focus is often on greenhouse gas emissions. Despite using large volumes of energy for production, the companies in Schouw & Co. have succeeded in reducing the emissions each year since 2020. Overall, the emissions have been reduced by 19% since 2020. The group has an ambition of a 35% reduction within scope 1 and 2 before 2030, which is within reach.
Another key highlight of 2023 was the launch of Fibertex Personal Care’s new lightweight product which has the potential to provide significant reductions of plastic use in the production of diapers. This new product is a good example of how the company has used its expertise to develop a product that can make a substantial impact on the nonwovens industry.
"We have always known that remanufacturing of automotive parts played a part in reducing environmental impact, but it is nonetheless positive that we are now able to document the actual benefits of our product groups, and we expect that customers will become increasingly aware that it is advantageous to use this type of automotive parts for cars instead of producing new parts," says CEO Jens Bjerg Sørensen.
The ESG Report also shows that Schouw & Co. has taken a number of other initiatives in order to ensure additional progress within the ESG area.
One of the company's strategic ‘wheels’ is called “responsibility,” which emphasizes the importance of ESG. We are committed to producing effectively with regard to resource use and environmental impact, safeguarding working conditions, and ensuring solid governance. In addition to this, we allocate resources for the development of sustainable solutions of the future. This closely corresponds with the initiatives taken in 2023, thus having taken significant steps in the right direction, adds Sørensen.
