According to reports, Ontex is looking to sell its Brazilian operation including the Pom Pom diaper brand. Interested buyers are said to be Belgium’s Drylock Technologies, which acquired two Brazilian hygiene companies in 2018, and Japan’s Daio Paper, which acquired Brazil’s Santher in 2020. The company is reportedly looking to get $100-125 million for the business but experts put the value closer to $90 million.
Ontex purchased this business in 2017 from Hypermarcas for one billion reals. At the time, the company was attractive for its market leading position in adult incontinence and its no. 3 spot in the Brazilian baby care market. The acquisition supported Ontex's strategy of expanding in the Americas.
In September 2021, the two companies entered into an agreement settling certain claims relating to the acquisition which ultimately concluded with Hypera giving $90 million.
