Ahlstrom Corp. generated second quarter 2010 net sales of $643 million, a 22.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
Net sales of the FiberComposites segment totaled $339 million, representing 52% of the group net sales. The segment’s net sales increased 21.4% compared to April-June 2009. The strongest growth was in the Glass and Industrial Nonwovens business area, which increased 31.1% as the building products market recovered. The wall coverings market was strong in China and demand for flooring materials increased in Europe and Russia. Exchange rate fluctuations boosted net sales growth in the Advanced business area, whereas in the previous quarter net sales were still declining.
In the Filtration segment, net sales hit $117 million, a 27.6% increase from $91 million in the year-ago quarter. Meanwhile, in the Glass and Industrial Nonwovens segment, net sales increased 31.1% from $56 million in the second quarter of 2009 to $74 million in the second quarter of 2010. The Home and Personal Nonwovens segment recorded sales of $87 million, compared to $76 million in the second quarter last year.
