With the introduction of the TDi (Total Distributed Intelligence) system in 2006, NDC Infrared Engineering made an un_precedented move forward in the evolution of on-line thickness measurement and control systems. Now, NDC brings TDi, with the same high level of capabilities, to blown film extrusion processors.
With this new system, NDC provides the necessary tools for Blown Film processors to optimize machine output and performance as well as product quality, particularly when costly barrier materials are involved. The non-nuclear FG710S In_frared Film sensor, mounted after the collapsers, can measure the various critical components in barrier film structures such as Nylon, EVOH and sealant materials. Up to four coextrusion components can be measured simultaneously. Also available for thickness measurement is NDCs unique GBS sensor, which can be mounted directly on a rotary scanner at the bubble, or in a stationary position in the collapsing frame.
Ahmad Shishegar, product develop_ment manager, said, With TDi, weve made the overall ownership experience with measurement and control systems easier. Installation is easier because weve dramatically simplified device connections. Calibration is easier, because of the digital design of our iSensors. System operation is easier because of our well-designed user interface. Whats more, the ability to independently manage and view intelligent sensors and scanners makes troubleshooting easier. Since the workstation software is truly portable, weve simplified maintenance while insuring a speedy path for recovery if a PC fails. Best of all, the critical system components share one common spare partthe D-BRIC, which is easily customized to the specific measurement or control task.
Blown film application support in_cludes a polar profile plot for each material component being measured; a die bolt display to assist the operator in achieving flat profiles, and a layflat display to indicate finished product quality. The profile mapping tools included account for machine component oscillation or rotation as well as bubble twist. This insures that whether controlled manually or via Automatic Profile Control, the resultant film profile is the flattest possible.
