It is well known that thermal stability is the most important factor in high temperature heat transfer fluid performance and economy. Particularly for systems operating above 250°C or 500°F—typical of chemical, polymer, synthetic fiber and other processing applications—thermal stability is essential to ensure that the heat transfer system will perform reliably and fluid service life will not be compromised.
However, thermal stability alone is not enough. The right chemistry is also required to ensure that any fluid degradation that may occur during normal operation does not produce sludge that can reduce system performance, increase maintenance expenses and lead to costly shutdowns, resulting in lost productivity.
For unpressurized and low-pressure heat transfer systems, diaryl alkyl heat transfer fluids, such as Dowtherm RP Fluid, offer greater thermal stability and cleaner operation than fluids based on partially hydrogenated terphenyl or dibenzyl toluene chemistry.
