Nonwovens output, by manufacturing processes, in Japan last year were as follows: chemical bonded 29,161 tons (down 23.1%), thermal bonded 38,087 tons (0.1% decrease), needlepunched 94,629 tons (down 2.5%), spunbonded and meltblown 93,654 tons (1.2% increase), spunlaced 30,014 tons (3.2% increase), wetlaid 31,869 tons (20% increase) and the remaining technologies 20,868 tons (145.4% increase). In total, these technologies represented a 2.6% increase to 338,282 tons.
Meanwhile, by end use application, medical and hygiene usage increased 4.1% to 89,689 tons; automotive increased 6% to 60,818 tons; industrial used was up 7.7% to 55,974 tons and life-related materials increased 1.1% to 62,788 tons. Meanwhile usage of engineering and construction materials was down 0.7% to 33,958 tons; clothing usage decreased 8.7% to 6252 tons and agriculture and gardening was down 6.1% to 1863 tons.
