BASF Shutters Polymer Plant

Published August 22, 2007
Germany-based chemical giant BASF Corp. has closed its Portsmouth, VA production facility. The plant, which manufactured superabsorbent polymer used in baby diapers and adult incontinence items, employed around 80 workers and 47 contractors. Those positions will be phased out by the end of October and, until then, workers will clean and decommission the plant, according to the company.
