January 20, 2006

Ahlstrom has made its third filtration-related purchase in less than a month. The Helsinki-based company has agreed to buy HRS Textiles, a Darlington, SC maker of specialty nonwovens serving mainly North American air and liquid filtration markets. The acquisition will strengthen Ahlstrom’s position in the air and liquid filtration markets in North America, particularly in the HVAC segment. It is expected to close before the end of the month, will add approximately $20 million (EUR 17 million) in sales to Ahlstrom’s Filtration business and include all assets of HRS in Darlington, SC. The new entity will operate as part of Ahlstrom Air Media LLC. HRS currently employs 120 people.
Earlier this month, Ahlstrom acquired FiberMark’s North American absorbent materials business to boost its specialty filtration markets, and in late December it purchased Lantor Inc.’s filtration business including facilities in Bellingham, MA and Wuxi, China.
FiberMark’s business, with €3 million in net sales, will be integrated into Ahlstrom’s Mt. Holly Springs, PA site. While the Lantor purchase will continue to function from Bellingham and Wuxi and add $20 million (€17 million) to Ahlstrom’s filtration business sales.
