Degussa To Invest in Krefeld Site

March 10, 2005

Degussa AG, Dusseldorf, is set to expand its superabsorbents capacities in Krefeld, Germany by 2007. The raw material supply for this new capacity will be secured through an expansion of its acrylic acid-producing joint venture with Rohm & Haas in Marl, Germany. The investment will total more than E40 million. Degussa is also set to bring 40,000 tons of additional superabsorbent capacity in Greensboro, NC this spring to meet increased demand in the NAFTA region.

Growth in superabsorbents has accelerated strongly since last year and with these new investments, Degussa is strengthening its position as the market and innovation leader. In 2004 the Superabsorber Business Unit generated sales of E432 million with a workforce of around 500. Degussa´s superabsorbents activities are global, with production facilities in Germany and the U.S.
