Norafin will be presenting nonwovens substrates made using hemp fibers at the World of Wipes conference. The company has developed needlepunch and spunlace fabrics using the fiber.

"We started development with several feminine hygiene companies on the 100% hemp side and now are looking to expand into industrial wiping and cosmetic applications with some different blend options," says Will Matthews, senior sales manager. "So far with blends we have done a 60%Hemp/40%Viscose variation but the next material is planned to be a 80%Hemp/20%Viscose."

Weights so far include: 30 GSM 100% Hemp; 60 GSM 100% Hemp; 250 GSM 100% Hemp and 45 GSM 60%Hemp/40%VIS with trials planned for  130 GSM 100% Hemp  and 85 GSM 80%Hemp/20%Viscose.

According to Matthews, the products reflect Norfain's goal of bringing new sustainable solutions to the market.
