INDA’s Chris Plotz discusses the wipes training course

INDA’s 2020 Virtual Wipes Academy began yesterday and is being held virtually through tomorrow, August 26. Held each year in conjunction with World of Wipes, the Wipes Academy is the first and only comprehensive wipes training program for the entire wipes supply chain.

Nonwovens Industry caught up with Chris Plotz, INDA’s director of education and technical affairs, who is leading this year’s training to talk about what’s in store for attendees.

Nonwovens Industry (NWI): What are the main themes that are being covered during this year’s Wipes Academy?
Chris Plotz (CP): This is a fundamental wipe knowledge course. Basics include: wipes design, manufacturing and applications for wet and dry wipes.

NWI: How is the training broken down during the three days?
CP: The Wipes Academy is comprised of 12 segments over a three-day period. I am lecturing 10 segments and Brad Kalil, INDA’s director of Market Intelligence & Economic Insights, and Jessica Franken, INDA’s director of Government Affairs, each have their own sections

NWI: How is the instruction being presented in the All-Virtual format? In what ways are attendees able to interact during the training?
CP: These courses are pre-recorded and aired virtually. There will be 15-minute live Q&A segments directly after each session to answer any questions that may have surfaced. There [was] also a happy hour the first evening in which the group mingle and ask questions of myself and Morris Collins, INDA’s director of Member Relations.

NWI: Are there any new elements to the Wipes Academy this year?
CP: Aside from the fact that we are not meeting in person… My background is in manufacturing of industrial and institutional wet and dry wipes. I’ve added that background into this version of the Wipes Academy. Although it still has a focus on consumer products there are new elements of wet and dry products including industrial and institutional. My goal with this version is to provide elements of a plant tour given by a seasoned product manager that also touches on elements of raw materials, products, processes: manufacturing, marketing and regulation high points.
