Ultrasonic welding offers an alternative to gluing or thermo-bonding in many nonwoven applications

Herrmann Ultrasonics is presenting its Ultrasonic Engineering portfolio for successful project implementation at Techtextil.

According to Herrmann, many processes such as lamination, cutting or embossing can be implemented by means of ultrasonic technology; advantages including a clean and sustainable process, high speeds and reproducibility. Additionally, the data evaluation allows a quality control like no other method, the company says.

For many nonwoven applications, ultrasonic welding offers an alternative to gluing or thermo-bonding. But without solid consultation and support in the ultrasonic laboratory, feasibility and cost-effectiveness cannot be assessed.

The company therefore provides seven steps to a good welding result as part of its Ultrasonic Engineering porfolio:
  • Application consulting - Standing or rotary welding, process comparison
  • Testing the ultrasonic weldability - Material testing, assessment of basis weight, structure of the layers, melting point
  • Anvil design - Roll structure, pin design, pressing surface
  • Welding process development - Parameter optimization, measurement verification of product requirements
  • Integration in machine environment - Consulting on installation concept, material management, interfaces
  • After-sales service - Process optimization, preventative mainenance, 24-hour hotline
  • Knowledge transfer - Basic and expert training in ultrasonic welding technology
