Sequel CEO Speaks on Disruption in Tampons

After 90 years, there is a lot of room for innovation in the category

Founded by two Stanford University-educated engineers, Sequel is looking to offer females more choices in feminine hygiene. Finding that seven out of 10 women do not trust their tampons not to leak, and typically use multiple products during menstruation, Sequel founders Greta Meyer and Amanda Calabrese focused on redesign.

“Not a lot has changed in the tampon market over the past 90 years,” Meyer told the Hygienix audience. “There is a lot of room for disruption.”

Stressing that the Sequel redesigned tampon does not change the absorbency of the prodiuct, but the way it absorbs, Meyer told the audience the patent pending design, which is still waiting for FDA approval, offers a no leak, no dry spot design with even saturation and reliable absorption thanks to the way channels direct the flow, making it more efficient.
