Green Manta replaces PE in hygiene packaging

W+D Hygiene Solutions is promoting Green Manta, a paper envelope for disposable products, at Hygienix 2021. The paper envelope features pre-creasing and cutting of paper, folding and closing envelope flaps and the marriage of a product with a paper sheet. According to the company, the use of this material can safe up to 25 million square meters of plastic waste per year by replacing plastic single-wrap packaging in feminine hygiene products. It can be adopted by brands with an easy machine upgrade.

With Green Manta, the previous PE individual packaging of a sanitary napkin or a light incontinence product is replaced by a neat, flat paper bag, similar to an envelope, to avoid plastic. The new Green Manta module brings together W+D‘s Mail Solutions and BICMA’s Hygiene Solutions technology to create an environmentally friendly and efficient individual wrapping made of paper. The environmental benefit is high: For a sanitary napkin, the new concept saves about 25 million square meters of plastic film in the course of one year – corresponding to an area of almost 3500 soccer fields.

This type of packaging is suitable for panty shields, sanitary napkins, and products for light incontinence. W+D BICMA offers this concept for own production lines, and as retrofits for existing machines of all brands.
