Cellulosic fibers offer many advantages

At Filtration 2018, Lenzing is discussing its Lyocell fibers for a variety of filtration applications including lightweight tea bag and coffee filter papers, industrial and automotive air and liquid filters, and high capacity depth filters for food and beverage.

With their microfibrillar structure, good thermal stability and chemical resistance, Lenzing Lyocell Shortcut fibers are well suited to use in various types of filter media. Fibrillated Lenzing Lyocell Shortcut fibers significantly enhance performance attributes of sheet materials including pore structure, permeability, filtration performance, mechanical properties, chemical resistance and formation.

According to Lenzing, cellulosic composition contributes to compatibility with natural cellulosic and synthetic fiber types and binders. Also, fibrillated Lenzing Lyocell Shortcut fibers provide a unique source of sub-micron diameter fibrils during wet abrasion within a refining process. Incorporation of Lenzing Lyocell Fibers and fibrillated Lenzing Lyocell fibers within the furnish increases wet web strength and sheet tear resistance.

The fibers are certified for food contact compliance and are derived from sustainable wood sources using a low environmental impact manufacturing process.
