Founded in the late 19th century as a producer of cotton wool, Rusvata today focuses on spunlace nonwoven material, cotton wool and cotton-based medical consumables.
Rusvata is the only manufacturer with GOTS and GMP certificates of cotton-based nonwovens in Russia, according to Anton Dolenko, export sales director. Products include spunlace (with different fiber blends), web, gauze, cotton pads, cotton buds and bleached comber noil. The company carries out the full cycle of production, from bleaching cotton to the manufacturing of a finished product.
“The full production cycle is an opportunity to control quality at all stages that allows us to make high-quality goods in short terms, and to make them more affordable for the client thanks to flexible pricing,” Dolenko says.
Due to stable growth in the nonwoven market over the last 10 years, which demonstrated a positive business outlook for the future, Rusvata’s founders decided to invest in nonwovens production for the development of the company.
In 2015, Rusvata built a new plant and purchased a Truetzschler nonwoven manufacturing line with the fiber hydroentangling system Aquajet. Rusvata’s cotton-based nonwovens technology provides an increase in the level of absorption compared with other nonwovens. The nonwovens are mainly supplied to wipes and hygiene producers in the EU.
“Manufacturing lines by Truetzschler are the world leader among manufacturers of equipment for the production of nonwovens,” says Dolenko. “It covers the full production cycle, which ensures stable quality of the finished product.”
The line, which started up in 2017, is equipped with a three-level metal detector, keeping metal particles out of the finished fabric. A fiber sorter in the line eliminates the possibility of foreign inclusions by means of a combination of optical, sonar and UV systems. A unique set of equipment allows the production of goods with a range of basic weights from 38 to 220 g/m2, and mono-, two-, and three-composite fabrics with a varied content of cotton, viscose and polyester fibers.
Meanwhile, a two-step installation of reverse osmosis filtration ensures the removal of bacteria and harmful viruses, collects 90-99% of all dissolved inorganic compounds, 95-99% of organic compounds, and up to 100% of the colloidal impurities, while maintaining a continuous flow of water in the system. A certified production laboratory furnished with the latest equipment provides quality control of finished products and components.
Initially, Rusvata focused on the local Russian market but since 2018 the nonwovens producer opened doors to European markets, especially Eastern European and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Next for Rusvata’s development is the installation of a second bleaching plant and the modernization of its nonwovens production.
“It’s one of the best times to start doing business in the nonwovens industry,” Dolenko concludes.
