RKW is expanded its site in Unseburg, Germany through a €1 million investment. The company plans to add silos for raw material storage as well as a blown film line, which will allow the site, which is located in the Saxony-Anhalt region, to manufacture high-quality plastic geo-barriers for construction, environmental and civil engineering applications for the first time. This investment will also add 10 new production jobs at the site.
Elsewhere in the Saxony-Anhalt region, the RKW Site in Halberstadt successfully manufactures hydroentangled spunbond and thermal bonded spunbond nonwovens and is a global technology and innovative leader in the field. The world’s first line for the large-scale production of hydroentangled spunbond nonwovens enabled RKW to be the first manufacturer to develop and produce endless-filament nonwovens in an in-line process. Under the brand name RKW HyJet, these products are used, for example, as surface protection and as acoustic nonwovens in the automotive industry as well as in the growing hygiene market for personal care and medical applications.
“RKW’s sites in Saxony-Anhalt provide about 90 people with work and as a training company also perspectives for young people. Safe jobs, further and in-house training and ecological responsibility are important to us as a medium-sized, family-owned company,” says Harald Biederbick, chairman of the RKW Group. “With our expansion and investments in Unseburg, we are clearly signaling our commitment to the business location Sachsen-Anhalt."
On highly advanced and efficient production lines, RKW Unseburg successfully manufactures films for agriculture, landscape gardening and the construction industry. As a modern and future-oriented Site, Unseburg has an in-house recycling plant (capacity: 2,500 tonnes per year) which allows the re-use of selected in-house production wastes in a closed circuit.
The RKW Group has been active in Northern Saxony-Anhalt since 2007 following its acquisition of HydroSpun GmbH in Halberstadt. With the purchase of the Unseburg-based Biofol Film GmbH in 2014, the manufacturer of plastic films and nonwovens is further expanding its presence in the middle of Germany.
