U.S. Nonwovens Corp. (USN), has announced that its arsenal of disinfectant formulas are in accordance with CDC guidelines and can be used to disinfect surfaces with suspected or confirmed Ebola virus infection.
According to Jake Ludlow R&D Engineer 3, Antimicrobials, at USN, it is much harder to destroy non-enveloped viruses than enveloped viruses like Ebola. USN is working on other delivery methods such as swabs, vapors, triggers, aerosols and wipes under R&D.
Enveloped viruses such as Ebola are susceptible to a broad range of hospital disinfectants used to disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces. Non-enveloped viruses are more resistant to disinfectants. U.S. Nonwovens disinfectant products have a higher potency than what is normally required for an enveloped virus, such as Ebola.
According to the CDC, the Ebola virus can stay infective for up to six days on surfaces in ideal conditions. Attention to rigorous disinfection practices is essential.
