Significant news continued to break in the nonwovens industry in 2021—from acquisitions and investments to new products and technologies.
Wipes news continued to gain attention this year. In fact, our most widely-read breaking news story was the rebranding of U.S. Nonwovens as Radienz Living. The company, headquartered in Melville, NY, operates across nine locations in North America, and manufactures a broad portfolio of products in the home and personal care categories, including disinfecting and antibacterial wipes, facial cleansers, baby wipes, fabric care, and more. Radienz Living is a supplier to major retailers like Walmart and Walgreens and to Fortune 500 and branded customers.
Coming in at No. 2, Domtar announced in January that it was selling its personal care unit. The unit had grown sharply in recent years thanks largely to a slate of acquisitions that included Attends adult incontinence businesses in North America and Europe; Associate Home Products, a U.S. private label diaper maker; Labatorio Indas, a Spanish hygiene specialist and Butterfly BodyLiners a start-up in the bowel leakage space. The deal with the New York, NY-based private equity firm American Industrial Partners was finalized in March. Since then, Domtar was acquired by The Paper Excellence Group, a global manufacturer of pulp and specialty, printing, writing and packaging papers.
Meanwhile, the baby diaper market continued to boom with new offerings for the littlest consumers. In May, Pampers launched Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diapers, its first diapering system that is part reusable, part disposable. The diapers feature a “one size fits most” super soft reusable cloth cover along with a disposable insert made with a plant-based liner.
