Simavita, an Australian developer of smart, wearable and disposable platform technologies for the global diaper industry has received CE Mark approval for Smartz. Designed for use in adult and infant diapers, Smartz is a low-cost sensing technology that is incorporated into diapers during manufacturing to provide accurate, real-time data and information to parents and caregivers. The CE Mark approval will allow Smartz to open up doors for the technology in the greater European region
“Achieving CE Mark enables Simavita to commercialize our disruptive technology for adults and infants across the European Economic area as well as other regions that recognize CE Mark,” says executive chairman Michael Spooner. “Smartz delivers significant competitive advantage to major retailers, distributors and global diaper manufacturers. Importantly, Smartz addresses many of the issues faced in Australia and internationally in the care of the elderly including delivering on significant efficiency gains while dramatically improving overall care standards.”
The culmination of 10 years of research and development, Smartz is built around cloud-based systems and app-based alert technology. Its alerts include wetness, dehydration, movement including agitation and restlessness, falls, ambient temperature and pressure sore management (for the elderly).
Simavita has previously announced it no long manufactures product or holds inventory. Instead, its strategy is to license technology and deliver service to customers, and the company is in talks with several companies about licensing the Smartz technology.
