Sateri, a global producer of viscose staple fiber, has earned the Certified Bio-based Product Label by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for its viscose staple fiber range for textile and nonwoven products. Verified by an accredited third-party body and strictly monitored by the USDA, the certification confirms that Sateri’s products are 100% bio-based, and their materials are sourced entirely from plant products.
Bio-based products are materials whose content is made in whole or in significant part from renewable agricultural, marine or forestry ingredients. Sateri’s viscose staple fiber is made from renewable wood cellulose. Natural and biodegradable, its products provide an alternative to conventional petroleum-derived products, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and consequently adverse impact on the environment.
“We are proud that Sateri is one of the first few producers in the viscose fiber industry to have our products formally recognised by the USDA,” says Ben Poon, Sateri’s senior vice president, Commercial. “This recognition underscores our commitment to produce viscose staple fiber in a sustainable manner, from responsible raw material sourcing to responsible product manufacturing, and help our customers and their clients to meet the market’s increasing preference for renewable and sustainable products.”
“We applaud Sateri for earning the USDA Certified Biobased Product label,” says Kate Lewis, USDA BioPreferred Programme. “Products from Sateri are contributing to an ever expanding marketplace that adds value to renewable agriculture commodities, creates jobs in rural communities, and decreases our reliance on petroleum.”
