Japan’s Kao has forged a partnership with a leading Chinese company to help it expand in markets expected to rise rapidly in the next couple of years. Kao will benefit from Shanghai Jahwa United’s extensive marketing structure and wholesale channels. Specifically the companies will focus on expanding three brands—Kao’s Merries disposable diapers, Laurier sanitary napkins and Attack laundry detergent. Full scale expansion of the brands is expected to begin in 2013.
Founded in 1898 as Hong Kong Kwong Sang Co. Ltd., Shanghai Jahwa became the first Chinese cosmetics company to list on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2001. It was also the first cosmetics companyin China to be granted international quality certification ISO9000:1994, and it participated in the formulation of national standards for the cosmetics industry in China. Shanghai Jahwa’s product lineups comprise cosmetics, perfume, skin care products, and household products under brand names including Herborist, Liushen, Maxam and Chinfié.
